Today’s post (#13 of 31) covers Richard Thompson’s “Dimming of the Day”. I am joined by my good friend, Suzy Mars. I love this song and the arrangement. Suzy’s smokey voice adds so much texture and depth. I loved being able to add a low harmony under Suzy’s haunting melody.
A note from Suzy: Suzy Mars, the rockstar extraordinaire! From her high school days in Wheaton to her college years in Carbondale, Suzy's voice and guitar skills were already making waves. But it was the allure of the Colorado mountains that called her name, causing her to drop out of school and join a female hard rock band as their lead singer. They toured the wild west, leaving a trail of mesmerized fans in their wake.
However, fate had a different plan for Suzy. After "singing too loud for too long," she lost her voice and returned to Wheaton to heal and care for her mother. It was during this time that Suzy discovered the world of day jobs, a stark contrast to her rockstar lifestyle. But music was in her blood, and once her voice healed, she joined the local blues band, that ultimately became Blue Plate Special. They rocked the Chicagoland scene, opening for legends like Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Edgar Winter and others.
In a plot twist that would make even the most seasoned musicians envious, Suzy recently reinvented herself by swapping her electric guitar for an acoustic one, and embraced a new sound and style. Now, as a solo artist, Suzy captivates audiences in the Fox Valley area while refining her songwriting and recording skills in her home studio. Suzy Mars: the rockstar turned blues aficionado turned acoustic maestro. Her musical journey is a testament to her unwavering passion and talent. Get ready for a sonic adventure like no other when Suzy takes the stage!
