Today’s post (#4 of 31) covers Guy Clark’s song “Step Inside This House”. This is the first song Guy wrote but he chose not to record it as he felt it wasn’t good enough. Enter  Lyle Lovett, himself a big fan of Guy Clark, and when the two were finished with a show together, Lyle asked if he could record the song. Guy agreed and Lyle put the song on the map.

I am joined today by guitarist, Dave Nelson. Dave is currently touring and performing with the band Hearstfield. Having been a member since 1999, Dave and the band have had the pleasure and privilege to share the stage with the likes of Charlie Daniels, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Trace Adkins, Dickey Betts, Poco, Los Lobos to name just a few. Dave also performs a tribute to the late, great Levon Helm with the Chicago-based Electric Dirt band. He is a founding member of the mythical and infamous swillbilly band Dick Smith. When he’s not recording or performing, Dave is an immensely popular TikTok internet influencer as well as a life coach… and perpetual liar. His hobbies include long naps and grooming the family pet gibbon, Fizzy.

Location note:  Geneva United Methodist Church (Geneva, IL) in the Fellowship Hall. Dave wanted to perform this song in this location because he has fond memories of practicing his cello in this very space when he was just a little tyke. The acoustics were really cool and we soooooo enjoyed playing in this room.
