Today’s post (#16 of 31) covers Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”.
Guest Artist: please meet my Grand Niece, Riley O’Brien. I have over 35 nieces and nephews and almost 25 Grand nieces and nephews. I say this because I don’t get to spend much quality time with most of them. Riley came out to see me perform this past summer with her grandmother and some friends. Her grandmother asked if Riley could come up and sing with me. I asked Riley if she ever sang in public before and she told me no, she hadn’t. I was really impressed with her vocal quality and choice of song. I asked Riley if she wanted to accompany me for this project and she said she would be delighted. She chose this song and I thought her reason for doing so was poignant.
A note from Riley:
“I gained most of my musical experience in school, from elementary school through college, performing in various choirs and musicals (anything that involved singing!) My musical focus the last couple of years has been to strengthen my voice and expand on my vocal abilities. In the coming New Year, I look forward to taking up piano again and continuing to find new ways to improve musically.”
“The song Landslide means a lot to me for a couple of reasons. I remember the first time I ever heard Landslide - I was in the car with my dad, I was about 10 years old. It came on the radio and he told me that he liked the song. It may seem like a simple moment, but since then this song has always reminded me of him, and because of that it has always been one of my favorite songs.”
“Now that I’m older, this song means something even more to me. To me, this song is about growing up and accepting change as it comes into your life. It also serves as an homage to my family and friends, those who are still with me and those I’ve lost, who I’ve built my life around and who have helped shape me into the person I am today.”
