Today’s post (#30 of 31) covers Dan Fogelberg’s “The Sand and the Foam''. I have loved this song since the first moment I heard him play it at the Coronado Theatre in Rockford IL in late 1980. The song is from his album, “The Innocent Age”. The entire album is a song cycle illuminating the loss of innocence and the coming of age. This particular song implies a deep sense of nostalgia, reflecting on the fleeting beauty of morning dew and the disappearance of footprints in the sand….an analogy for the fading memories of childhood.

Location note: Burntside Lodge, https://www.burntside.com/  the oldest remaining guest lodge in the Ely, Minnesota area. Nestled among the pines on the southern shore of Burntside Lake, Burntside is a summer resort which has been welcoming guests since 1913 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Early information shares stories of guests enjoying hospitable lodging in accommodations at what would become Burntside Lodge as early as 1911...over 100 years ago. Ray and Nancy LaMontagne purchased Burntside Lodge in 1941 and today it is still operated by Ray and Nancy’s son Lou, his wife Lonnie and their adult children, Nicole and Jacques. 81 years later, the LaMontagne family continues to welcome guests to this northwoods retreat.

Happy holidays!  Please enjoy and share!
