Welcome to Musical Chairs!-a project where I release a daily music video featuring myself performing with a rotating lineup of fellow musicians and loved ones.

Today’s post (#21 of 31) covers “In the Bleak Midwinter”, a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti, commonly performed as a Christmas carol. The text of this Christmas poem has been set to music many times. Two of the most famous arrangements were composed by Gustav Holst and Harold Darke in the early 20th century. Dan Fogelberg released it on his “First Christmas Morning” album. It is said that it is the most popular Christmas carol performed worldwide. It is absolutely my favorite  carol and I felt it appropriate to release it today, the Winter Solstice.

Guest Artist:

Glen West, performing on EWI (electronic wind instrument). Glen is a multi-instrumentalist performing and recording in the Chicago area for the past 35 years in a variety of groups. He performs frequently as part of the Nite Hawks jazz quintet, the Yorkville, Geneva and Glen Ellyn big bands, the Matt Erion Dodecaband, the No Strings Attached Saxophone Quartet, the horn driven R&B bands August, the Chi-Town Showstoppers and various jazz trios.

In addition to his traditional saxophone work, Glen has a long history of recording and performing with various electronic wind instruments with musical groups such as the fusion groups Wild Pitch and Braille Dog and the Gojo Ensemble electronic trio.

He's been a part of my annual “Ho-Ho-Holiday” shows and I am thrilled to include him as part of this year's Musical Chairs project.
